An ounce of prevention is always worth a pound of cure……….
So, after several reports of shaft and/or coupling separations on various vessels, resulting in lost shafts & propellers or jammed rudders, we started installing a simple, inexpensive preventer.
A zinc donut installed ½” to ¾” forward of the stuffing box. I’m told it makes quite a grinding noise when it is called upon to do its work.
